Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical and radiological results of cementless total hip arthroplasty, using a porous-coated femoral stem.
Materials and Methods: Between May 1998 and March 2000, 44 cementless porous-coated femoral stems (Versys¢ç, Zimmer) were implanted in 43 patients. The average age and follow up were 54 years and 34 months, respectively. The Harris hip scores were clinically measured, and the radiolucent line, subsidence, osteolysis and stability radiologically assessed.
Results: The average preoperative Harris hip score of 53 points was postoperatively improved to 92 points. According to the radiological findings at the last follow-up, all the stems showed bony ingrowths and stable fixation, with no osteolysis around the stems. There were 2 proximal femoral cracks, 1 periprosthetic fracture and 1 posterior hip dislocation during the operations.
Conclusion: The short-term results of hip arthroplast, using Versys stems, were stisfactory, but more long-term follow-ups are required.
